Guardian Ad Litem

In the guardianship context, a guardian ad litem (GAL) is a neutral third-party who is required by law to investigate the petition and make a recommendation to the court.  Among other duties, the GAL is responsible for obtaining a medical examination of the alleged incapacitated person.  The GAL must submit a written report to the court about this and other relevant facts.
