Burkhart and Burkhart Website Privacy Policy

Information collected
In general, we do not actively collect personal information from our website users, with the exception of our "E-mail Us" form. This form asks the user for an e-mail address and name.  This information is then sent to us over e-mail. We do use website tracking software that is capable of collecting information about a user's computer, like their IP address and the URL from which they came to our site. We use this software only to measure the performance of our website, and do not use this information in an effort to identify individuals.

Confidentiality
Users are advised that they should not send confidential information. Users should not send any information about a specific legal matter unless they have an engagement agreement signed by one of our attorneys establishing an attorney-client relationship with Burkhart and Burkhart, PLLC.  If a user is not our client, there is a possibility that information provided by the user to our law firm may be used against the user, for instance if our firm represents an adversary.  Sending an e-mail does not establish an attorney-client relationship.

User choice

If users do not want Burkhart and Burkhart to have any personal information, users can simply choose to refrain from contacting us and identifying themselves.

Access to users' e-mail address
es
Access to the names and e-mail addresses submitted on our website is limited as much as possible to Burkhart and Burkhart staff; we do not purposely share or sell users' e-mail addresses to others without permission.  However, it should be noted that our E-mail Us form is not secure, so it is possible that a third party could intercept this information while it is being transmitted. No confidential information should be sent over our e-mail form. Users may notify Burkhart and Burkhart about changes to their e-mail addresses or other information by contacting us.

Use of contact information by Burkhart and Burkhart

Information submitted though our E-Mail Us form is used to respond to inquiries submitted through the form.  If the user provides an e-mail address and the submission invites a response, we will respond to that inquiry by e-mail.  If the user provides an e-mail address and a phone number, Burkhart and Burkhart may respond by either of those avenues.  We do not send unsolicited e-mails to our website users that are not relating to an existing attorney-client relationship.  At this time, we do not offer an e-mail newsletter, but when and if we do, we will implement an opt-in / opt-out process.

Redress

We promise to address concerns about privacy issues promptly and thoroughly.  Website users can simply contact us to alert us to any problems or questions they may have.

Note:  This privacy policy is just about our website, not our client relationships in general.  Washington lawyers are ethically required to preserve the confidences and secrets of their clients. (RPC 1.6)
